This transport and support squadron was among the units relocated from the Amman-based Airlift Wing as part of the 2017 restructuring effort, to King Abdullah Air Base in Ghabawi.

The 8th Squadron has been the first, and up to the beginning of 2019, the only RJAF unit that has female pilots, starting with three and more are expected to join soon.
The 8th Squadron was established on June 25, 1983 and has used different platforms such as the Allouette III, S76, Huey UH-1H and Bell 212.
