Jafr is situated in the south of the country and construction of the base began in 1974. On November 27, 1980 the first aircraft landed and it was officially opened on June 24, 1981 by HM King Hussein and named after HM King Feisal ibn Abdel Aziz of Saudi Arabia, who had financed the project. Nos 1 and 25 squadrons were based there from 1988 to 1990. It now has No 9 Fighter Squadron equipped with F5s. The base is often used for joint exercises with friendly forces.
