The Flying Instructor School was officially formed on December 25, 1996, although it was known before that as the Standardisation and Evaluation Unit which was formed on December 15, 1992. It is based at the KHAC Mafraq. The School trains pilots as flying instructors and also standardises training methods and evaluates the level of performance of the flying instructors and cadets. Periodic inspections of all squadrons are also part of the remit. The aircraft used are the Firefly T67, Casa 101 and Hughes 500D/E.
